What is the custom field type "Company list" ?

Under Custom fields there is a custom field type called "Company list".

 

The company list custom field is used to expose a company list drop down on a form on your End-User Portal.

 

The company list will be automatically pre-populated by the companies that exist in your help desk. 

 

Use case:

The "company list" custom field is used mostly by internal agents that want to retain ownership of a ticket BUT still want to post it on behalf of their client. The ticket would be managed completely by the agent as the "Company" would never be copied on any correspondence.  

 

Disclaimer:

By associating this type of custom field to a form, you will be potentially exposing all the companies that are listed in your help desk on your end-user portal.  

 

To avoid making your company list public (unless you explicitly want to), you can:

 

1. Simply not use this custom field type.

 

2. You can create a "Agent only" form (these types of forms are NOT visible on your End-User Portal) 

 

3. You can force users to log-in to your end-user portal to submit tickets. All username's and passwords would be controlled by your help desk agents (end-users could not sign up on their own)
